I've been having the same problem in Quark 10.2 with a 4-page document that was originally created in Quark 9.3. Printing or exporting to a PDF either runs very slowly or causes Quark 10.2 to stall or crash.

The document is a 4-page file with a lot of high resolution EPS files with very complex clipping paths. I tried resaving the images as TIFFs and that had no effect, however the clipping paths in the files were not deleted, so that may be a factor.

I exported the entire document back to Quark 9.1 and was able to print and export to PDF successfully from a Mac Pro running Quark 9.3 on Mac OS 10.6.8.

Back in Quark 10.2, I tried changing the transparency settings and hiding the dialogue box and here are the results:

ALL 4 PAGES:
Exporting to PDF with Native Transparency - crashed immediately before I could hide the dialogue box
Exporting to PDF with Ignore Transparency - crashed immediately before I could hide the dialogue box
Exporting to PDF with Flatten Transparency - crashed immediately before I could hide the dialogue box
Print to PDF with Transparency - stalled, but did not crash
Print to PDF with Ignore Transparency - WORKED
Print to POSTSCRIPT with Transparency - crashed
Print to POSTSCRIPT with Ignore Transparency - crashed on page 1

PAGES 1 & 4 only:
Exporting to PDF with Native Transparency - crashed immediately before I could hide the dialogue box
Exporting to PDF with Ignore Transparency - crashed immediately before I could hide the dialogue box
Print to POSTSCRIPT with Transparency - crashed

PAGES 2 & 3 only:
Exporting to PDF with Native Transparency - worked
Exporting to PDF with Ignore Transparency - worked
Exporting to PDF with Flatten Transparency + hidden dialogue box - stalled, but did not crash

I tested this on a 3.5 Ghz 6-Core Intel Xeon E5 Mac Pro running Quark 10.2 on Mac OS 10.9.5.
The original problems started on an iMac running Quark 10.2 on Mac OS 10.8.4.

The iMac was able to export all 4 pages to PDF by ignoring transparency, even though I was not able to do that from my computer.

Hi shaharaperil,

we'll fix the bug in QuarkXPress 10.5, even though that means delaying release of 10.5 for a few days. Currently it looks like we'll be able to release 10.5 in the first week of November.

Regards
Matthias

Hi Matthias,

Since upgrading to Yosemite I have not been able to open Quark 10.2.1. The app keeps on crashing on startup.

I have also updated my Extensis Suitcase to the latest 6.0 version. Do you know of others having similar issues?

Thanks,
Chris

QuarkXPress 2015 is announced.
Can you talk about QuarkXPress 10.5 detail?

Hi kawamura,

the announcement of QuarkXPress 2015 does not change our plans regarding QuarkXPress 10.5.

Still scheduled to release early November, will support OS X Yosemite and of course will have bug fixes.

Regards
Matthias
