bullets and lists

Post by cmaler84 » 17 Jun 2008, 04:26

I'm somewhat new to Quark, but a company I freelance for uses it instead of InDesign, which is what I'm used to. I can't for the life of me figure out how to create a bulleted list. I'm sure it's very easy to figure out, which is why it's driving me nuts, but can anyone help me out here? Thanks!

Hi cmaler84,
Quark does not have a built-in bulleted list feature (as of v7.x) so you either have to create them by hand or follow/customize this tip of mine.

Hope this helps!

I usually do bullet-> tab->Copy. Set your tab to, say, .15" In your paragraph format, set your left indent to .15" and your first line to -.15"

Yeah I got that, what I couldn't figure out was where to get the bullet or how to even open glyphs so I could find one in a font. I figured it out though. I had an old version that had a bullet in it and just copy and pasted. Thanks for the replies!

Though it seems you're sorted, for reference you might like to know a common character used for bullets is which is alt-8 on a Mac. Some use others, of course, like the l (lower case L) character in Dingbats, though I find that a bit large.
Only v7 has a glyphs palette, it's in the penultimate menu on the right, can't remember the menu title! Open it, find the character you want in the typeface you want, then double click the character and Quark will insert it at the point were the text I bar is currently.

Thank you so much, that REALLY does help! I was just copying and pasting that bullet but didn't know how to actually create it. The advice here has been great, thanks!!

Glyphs palette is located under "Windows" menu
You can also use shortcuts like "cmd+option+Q" (Symbol font) cmd+option+Z (Zapf), this will change the font for first character you type after that.
