IMPORTANT: Quark will stop supporting AVE after Sep 18, 2014

Post by Matthias Guenther (Quark) » 28 Jan 2014, 22:46

Hi all,

This is an important message for everyone who has a live app based on Quark AVE Publishing:
As communicated since the end of 2012 and throughout 2013, moving forward Quark doesn't see Quark AVE Publishing as the ideal technology for mobile publishing, instead we believe using a standard is important for the future. Therefore we have based the new App Studio, released with QuarkXPress 9.5, completely on HTML5. As a result, QuarkXPress 10 doesn't support AVE Publishing and we have made clear that we will not further developed Quark AVE Publishing, a technology we licensed from Aquafadas.

To make migration easier we had also offered a migration path for all apps based on AVE to move to the new HTML5 based App Studio. Furthermore we also promised to continue to support AVE as long as possible in case you couldn't migrate to the new App Studio.

Now our OEM agreement with Aquafadas about licensing the AVE technology will come to an end on March 18, 2014.

We have an agreement with Aquafadas that the portal stays live for some more months. We will switch off the Quark-branded portal to configure AVE based apps and issues after Sep 18, 2014. For existing customers Quark and Aquafadas will continue to support your Quark AVE Publishing based app until then.

Bottomline:
Existing customers can continue to use their AVE-based apps until Sep 18, 2014. Afterwards it will stop working. Quark will not be able to support AVE based apps after Sep 18, 2014.
New customers cannot create AVE-based apps after March 18, 2014.

Existing customers have the option to port their app to the new HTML5-based App Studio by Quark, which is a technology Quark owns. The new App Studio gives you more possibilities than the Quark AVE Publishing based solution, as you can also create apps for the iPhone and for Android, you can create HTML5 based animations etc. And in most scenarios the new App Studio is even less expensive than the Quark AVE pricing.

Our telesales team is also contacting all customers that we are aware of having an app live to explain you the options and steps to perform to migrate to the new App Studio should you be interested.

If you have questions please do not hesitate to ask by sending me an email.

Thank you
Matthias

P.S.: If you use the new HTML5-based App Studio with QuarkXPress 9 or 10 or InDesign, there is no change for you and you can ignore this message.
