Poor-looking printed text for no apparent reason

Post by Notfromdixie » 17 Dec 2013, 07:33

Hi! I have recently purchased QuarkXPress 10 and have encountered trouble printing my first document, a text set in Minion Pro Med and sent to a HP LaserJet P1102. The text has a thin and low-resolution look. I mean it looks awful. I have tried several styles in the drop menu to no avail. If I export to PDF, press quality, I get the same thing. Shifting to Times New Roman, the same. The funny thing is if I use Open Office Writer to print the same text, it looks great. What am I missing?
By the way, everytime I open the Print dialog, a "Non-breaking character sets for..."-window appears, featuring options about Asian languages. Is this to be expected?
Thanks!

Are you printing to a Non PostScript printer. If yes, the document will print as a raster image. This may cause the text to appear low-res.About the Non-beraking character set issue: Which OS, Language are you using?
