Can Quark "export" transparency when using Distill

Post by chandlerbing » 19 Mar 2014, 06:19

I'm not sure how to phrase that clearly. The problem is we need to use the "Export" function to split our PDF files into separate pages for our printer. If I export directly to PDF I usually get tons of low resolution and slicing errors (these are files submitted by advertisers, so we have no control over how they've created their original). If we export as .ps for Distilling we get a clean file but it won't allow us to retain transparency... I get the following postscript error every time. I can't find any place in my Distiller settings where I've chosen not to "Allow Transparency" (or even any place where I can choose a transparency setting at all) so why does it think this an error?

%%[Error: The PostScript contains Transparency pdfmark, job aborted.]%%
%%[ /AllowTransparency is false in job option settings.]%%
%%[ Error: undefined; OffendingCommand: pdfmark; ErrorInfo: SetTransparency pdfmark ]%%

Stack:
/SetTransparency
true
/TK
/Normal
/BM
1
/CA
1
/ca
-dict-

%%[ Flushing: rest of job (to end-of-file) will be ignored ]%%
%%[ Warning: PostScript error. No PDF file produced. ] %%

You will have to edit your distiller joboptions manually to allow transparency to work.
Open your .joboptions in a text editor and search for the line that contains

/Allow Transparency false

Change that false to true, save the joboptions file, restart distiller and it will work.

That worked. Thanks. Can't say as I ever would have come up with that on my own!
