Layered PDF

Post by Glenn McDowall » 03 Nov 2004, 05:53

Does any one know of a way of producing a layered pdf. Specifically i would like to put a cutter on a separate layer to the artwork. In quark I can get the cutter as a page by itself or sat on top of the artwork page.

Hi Glenn,

a layered PDF file would make necessary the ability to natively export a PDF 1.5 file from within QuarkXpress (optional contents = layers are supported the first time with PDF 1.5 and Acrobat 6). The only supported PDF version by QuarkXPress 6 so far is PDF 1.3 which is far away from what you'll need.

An alternative would be to put special PostScript code (pdfmark operators) into the print file from QuarkXPress 6 which tells an Acrobat Distiller to create the layers. This on the other hand would make a special XTension necessary which does no exist today as faras I know.
