QuarkXpress 9 Check Box printing issue

When we print a form the checkboxes print out on our LaserJet Pro 400 M401n "HP Universal PS Print driver" printer solid black. But when we print the same form to our HP LaserJet 5200 "HP LaserJet 5200 PS driver" shared on another computer the check boxes print out normal. I have verified the printer settings are similar but not exact "which is to be expected since different printers" in the program and with the drivers.

I can export the file to pdf and it will print fine also on the M401n.

The system is Windows 7 Pro, QuarkXPress 9.5.4.1

IMO there is a problem with the printer driver and not with QuarkXPress.
Try to export to PDF and to print the PDF file till the problem with the printer driver can be solved.

That is what the user is doing currently or printing to the shared printer in the other office. I have tried a couple print drivers and versions. Now the odd thing is this was happening with a different printer connected via usb which is much older HP LaserJet 5000 Laser Printer I swapped the printer out for this exact issue.

So I guess this is a driver issue or a setting. Any suggestions?

If you tried to set or modify all the options (both from printer drivers and from QuarkXPress print dialog) and nothing could solve the problem (including checking of the network settings if it's a printer conected to a network and not directly to a workstation), I think the final solution is to export from QXP to PDF and to send the PDF file to the printer.

You can also ask to enter the QuarkXPress Facebook Group, there are a lot of highly specialised users and some excellent engineers from Quark who can give you a good advice.
