migrated qla 3.2 to xp virtual machine

Post by obruin » 18 Mar 2009, 00:41

i've platespun the physical qla xp box to a identical vm.

tried to run a new installtion of quark as a test and i get the following error unable to locate qla server
i can ping the new virtual server in question so basic networking is fine.
however when connecting to the new box the quark license administrator service 3.2 on the new virtual machine does not start.
how do i get the service to restart?
thanks

While installing QLA server, it should be installed as a service and after restarting the server machine, QLA service runs at the back end.
Just to cross check, launch QLA server 3.2 as an application (If it succeeds then you will see QLA server pane) and now launch QuarkXPress, it should connect to QLA server 3.2.
Above steps will lead to final steps of troubleshooting (If required) and also confirm the Qxp version you are using

Yup!
Need to download QLALIcense.dat file fro your QLA account with Quark.
Log on to: http://www.quark.com/products/qla/
Choose Region & Language, enter your username & password and click submit > Download
Then you need to place this downloaded QLALicense.dat file inside Server folder at:
C:// Program Files / Quark / Quark License Administrator / Server / Place the downloaded file here.
Launch QLA server, shoud be good[:)]

thanks once again. don't have any of this information required to access the new license key to hand. i'll have to do some digging.[:(]
question.... if the machine ip and hostname are identical why would the existing license be invalid. the credentials are exactly the same.
.......is this existing license tied to the mac address?

You are absolutely correct!!
QLALicense.dat file is tied to MAC address as well (Along with IP address & Port Number).
You should contact Quark Tech support, they will take your product's serial number and reset your account details on a fly.
Good Luck!!

Hi there
So the QLA isn't affected from the hostname? so when i change the hostname of the server on which qla is running, it doesn't make any problems?
