I know the history of ALAP and how Quark bought them. But I am confused about the availability of these XTs on Quark.com's download page.
If I navigate to:
Support -> Downloads -> Product (QuarkXPress), OS (Windows), File Type (XTension) -> Search
...I see several ALAP XTs.
What is the story on these? While not described on the page as DEMOs, once you run the installer, it appears to be a demo. - - but there is no way to purchase the software so why is Quark posting these demos?
I just spent 2 hours in Quark's 'Customer Support Messenger' (customer service chat) and got nowhere.
If these XTs are for previous customers who need to re-download, shouldn't Quark note something about the licensing and that these are not freeware XTs like Quark used to offer for versions 3, 4 and 5?
What's the deal with ALAP XTs on the download page?

Hi, spamjim,
these XTensions are for QuarkXPress 7 only and are provided free of charge. There is no restriction and no time limit. Enjoy!
In QuarkXPress 8 most of these functionalities are built-in and integrated into the UI of QuarkXPress (and also localized).

Something does not agree with your comment that these are for "QuarkXPress 7 only".
For example, see http://downloads.quark.com/Details.aspx?fid=64&
"Product Requirement: QuarkXPress 4.1 and later and QuarkXPress Passport 4.1 and later"

Hi, spamjim,
you are right, there are ALAP XTensions for QuarkXPress 4 on our website. I found out that we put them there in the course of merging ALAP's website with ours.
We will remove them, as they are commerical licenses and you would need a code for them (and QuarkXPress 4 and Mac OS 9).
The free XTensions for QuarkXPress 7 of course will remain on our website:
http://downloads.quark.com/Details.aspx?fid=75& and
http://downloads.quark.com/Details.aspx?fid=76&
Thanks
Matthias
