PDF size comparison

Hi,

I have 2 different ways of creating a pdf from Quark . . .

1. An applescript that converts to ps then passes to Distiller
2. Using Quark Server to generate the PDF with the "PS file for later Distilling" option.

My tests are quiet unbelievable in that I use the same file for both processes BUT with the applescript I get an acceptable 1.8MB final high res, print ready pdf, WHERE AS with Quark Server I get a massive 82.7MB! - both are also using the same Adobe Distiller.

Interested to hear other users comments on this.

duh! helps if I include the image compression (sorry folks), but still twice as big at 9.6MB as applescript version ... and yes, I can clarify that all other settings are exactly the same ;0)

Hi Ian,

That is still a massive size discrepancy. Have you tried actually exporting the Output Style from QuarkXPress and loading it into Server? I'm not sure it would yield any different results but it's worth a shot.

It does happen on occasion that we ship with a different version of our PDF library from XPress to Server but that should result in a few KB not a few MB.
