Activating hyperlinks

Post by pgilpat » 04 Apr 2016, 10:08

I have a document that has many email addresses and URLs. Is there a way to automatically activate these rather than doing them manually? The document is ultimately going to the web.

For anyone with a default installation of Adobe Reader or Acrobat, what looks like a link will act like a link. These "fake" links cannot even be removed.

However, I often enough find I have missed converting a url or a mailto: to a link after the fact. Or, I get a PDF or other file from a client that they now want "real" links in the final output. In the first instance, the urls and mailto: is in the file, in other cases I don't like having to do this manually, either.

Most all the time, one of Acrobat's Document Processing actions can be run and catch all or nearly all of them. I have fewer or none to fix manually after that action.

Here are some screen shots:

For this, I turned off the Acrobat and Reader preference to automatically convert urls to hyperlinks. Then ran the action above. As you can see, the (at least fully formed) urls and the mailto: hyperlinks were created successfully. A url of only say quark.com will not be converted. they at least need to be www.quark.com in format (the www).
