Fix footnote reference formatting

Post by geirrosset » 06 Apr 2016, 05:42

I am currently laying out a book with about 1000 footnotes. The author has consequently put the footnote reference in front of the period, which, at least here in Norway, is wrong. The reference should follow the period. I can find all footnote references which are followed by a period by searching for "\o." but replacing it with ".\o" removes the reference and in stead inserts a lower case o superscript. Is this a bug? How can I fix this?

Best regards

Hi Geir,

It is a defect. We are already aware of it. Currently, meta character \o is accepted in Change To field of Find Chnage

Expected behavior: Meta character \o should not be accepted in Change To field. User should not be able search with meta character \o in Change To field. Meta character \o should not be treated as independent character 'o'. Proper alert should be displayed.
Find Change cannot differentiate b/w the different footnote references, hence replace operation should not be allowed for \o

The behavior should be similar to that of meta character for Wild Card character.

So what I am trying to do cannot be done? Are you looking at making this possible?

Best regards
Geir

No it is not possible.

Find Change cannot differentiate b/w the different footnote references, hence the footnote reference (whether it is 1,2,3,4...) cannot be maintained during the Change operation.

The same behavior is exhibited by Indesign too.
