page or column wrap with MacBook Pro

Post by schemaja » 22 Apr 2016, 08:44

Hi all,

I bought QE 2015 and now I try it. I usually use InDesign CS6. I try to get a page wrap (Seitenumbruch oder in QE auch Spaltenumbruch genannt) or column wrap. I don't know as it is called in English. I have a MacBook Pro without a numberpad. In QE is no shortcut key for this.

Can anyone help?

Many Thanks

Hi Schemaja,

just hit "enter" instead of "return".
(Also die Eingabetaste am Zusatz-Ziffernblock)

Alternatively you can specify a long "Space before" in the first paragraph that should be the top of the next page/column.

Thanks
Matthias

Hi Matthias,

thank you for your help. As I said I have a MacBook Pro without a numberpad (Zusatz-Ziffernblock oder Nummernblock). I think many user have a MacBook Pro and have the same problem. What do you mean with a "long space before" in the first paragraph? I have to make a long paragraph that goes to the next page? Could you copy that sign on your mac numberpad and send it to me as answer or attachment? Maybe that could help any MacBook user until you put that sign in the Quark menü in the next update.

Many thanks for your help

I found it via internet.

fn + return/enter is the combination on MacBooks without a numpad and you will get a page or column wrap.

Thanks

Hi schemaja,

yes, exactly, the function key will convert Return to Enter.

The other trick is to give the paragraph style sheet that you want to see at the top of the next column/page a "Space before" value of 297mm (assuming you use A4, however any larger value will work). That will make QuarkXPress automatically wrap the text based on style sheet and might work better than a manual "enter".

Regards
Matthias
