PDF JPEG compression settings inverted

Post by andrewsimpson » 07 Feb 2017, 21:49

A new user to Quark XE, (2016 version) I'm finding that the compression settings for export to PDF are inverted. Setting the compression settings to high quality produces very low quality images. But setting to low quality, produces.....high quality. I'm guessing that were this a bug it would have long since found and shot. Corrupted installation on my machine? Or some other setting under the dash I can reset?

Hi Andrew,

it's just reversed to what you may be used to in Photoshop. Photoshop speaks of quality, whereas the libraries QuarkXPress uses speak of compression. Similar to Acrobat.

So a "low" compression (Quark) equals to "high" quality (Photoshop).

Thanks
Matthias

Thank you Matthias! Perfectly reasonable, but absent your explantion I'd have never figured that out in my lifetime. You'll see more dumb questions from me as I adapt from InDesign.
