Quark2015 and Suitcase

Discuss third-party XTensions® software for QuarkXPress 2015 and QuarkXPress 2016.
As the API hasn't changed between 2015 & 2016 versions, most XTension running in QuarkXPress 2015 should also work in QuarkXPress 2016.

Quark2015 and Suitcase

Post by shaun » 04 Mar 2015, 06:26

We had to wait an awful long time for Extensis to produce a Suitcase 6 extension for use in Quark 10 - in fact we even had to tell Extensis we wanted it! Have you checked with Extensis that there will be an extension for Quark2015? And ready for the Q2015 launch?
Mind you, they're probably working on Suitcase Fusion 7 by now and then we'll need an extension for that too ...

Hi Shaun,

of course we are in contact with all of our XTension developers and solution partners, also with Extensis.

You might have seen that quite a few already made a public statement that they will support QX2015 either right when it is being released or shortly after.

So if you contact Extensis I am sure they will listen and your voice will weigh more than ours, as you are their customer.

That said I am positive that they will support QX2015 soon.

Regards
Matthias

What annoyed me most about having to ask Extensis for that extension was their implied suggestion that not enough people used Quark for them to consider creating one as a matter of course.
Will check; and nag if necessary.
Thanks.

Hi Shaun,

yes, I remember. Monotype was much quicker releasing FontExplorer (FEX) for QuarkXPress 10.

Sometimes larger companies do upgrade later, as they need all of their solutions and XTensions to be compatible and need to do long tests. For example a large American printing company renewed their 1,900 licenses of QuarkXPress last December, so we definitely see a chicken-egg situation sometimes.

Thanks
Matthias

I received a similar answer from FontExplorer. I asked if they had a timeframe for a Quark 2015 compatible plugin and this was their response "We do not have a time frame at this time for a Quark 2015 plug-in. I would suggest an application set in the meantime." They where quick to release a plugin for Quark 10.

Hi Pete,

as our partners Extensis and Monotype are not affiliated with Quark, we cannot comment on this. However be assured that we do everything to support them and help them to release compatible versions as fast as possible if that's their priority too.

Thanks
Matthias

My question to EXTENSIS about Suitcase Fusion
Loyal users of Suitcase Fusion 5 (Windows), I like to know if you plan an update of the software for QuarkXPress 2015 (Windows), or if I should turn to consider another solution.
cordially

and the response of the support :

Dear customer,
we are currently working on a solution but it would not be for suitcase 5 as suitcase 6 is out. We would be announcing it once we have come up with a solution as such.
kind regards,
O.S. : Windows 10 - Intel I5 - 4670K: 2 CORE 3.4 Ghz - RAM: 16 GB

When you consider how long it is since Q2015 was announced, why are the Suitcase and FontAgent extensions we need still 'being developed'?
I don't understand.
