Certificate frames

Post by Jim8Davis » 26 Apr 2017, 12:50

I recently upgraded to the latest version of Quark Xpress and the certificate frames are no longer available. Anybody know why these were removed? And are there any free substitutes. I attempted to Google "free certificate frames" and literally got lost in all the various links that didn't really provide anything.

They are no longer available.

The guy that created them removed them because there had been very little demand for them. Also, they tended to bitmap so were only usable at certain point sizes.

I think they were removed with XPress 7 or 8 if I recall correctly. Might have been 6 though.

They still exist in v. 8.5.1 (just checked right now).

Actually, the certificate frames were still in V9.5 which is what I upgraded from when I lost them. I have been using those certificate frames as far back as I can remember. At least 20 years. I typically used them in a 42 pt width and never saw any bit-mapping.

Anyway, I never thought about going back and using an older version of Quark to create a doc using the certificate frames so thanks for the reminder that I can do that.

It was version 10 that they were removed.

Hi Jim,

a workaround could be to look for (free) vector frames (in AI, EPS or PDF format) and then to convert them to native objects.

We had these frames on our wishlist survey and they ranked somewhere in the middle.

Thanks
Matthias

Matthias - What would have been the downside of leaving the certificate frames in V 2016? I realize there are other routes to achieving that same look but it's a lot more work than just selecting them as a frame.
