Migration to a different Mac crashes Quark 2017

Post by piperh » 29 Jul 2019, 16:07

I was using an early 2011 Macbook Pro which has died and have migrated all software and work to a slightly newer, late 2011 Macbook Pro, after doing a clean install of High Sierra and then running Apple's Migration Assistant.

All other software is working as on the previous Mac but on the new setup Quark 2017 launches OK but crashes as soon as I open a file. Is there an inherent problem with migrating to a different machine? Is there a way I can do a clean install of Quark 2017? (I've searched Quark's site but cannot find an installer for anything earlier than Quark 2018).

A solution will be v v welcome as I cannot currently get any work done ...

Thanks for that link Jiri but unfortunately a simple installation is not sufficient. I'll post here the whole palaver in case it's useful for anyone else who's moving Quark 2017 from one machine to another.

You must delete everything related to the previous installation after a migration. Here's the email received from Quark Support (they were fast and helpful):

Navigate to the Mac HD >> Applications >> Trash QuarkXPress 2017 and empty the trash.
Navigate to the Mac HD >> Library >> Preferences >> Quark >> Trash QuarkXPress 2017 and empty the trash.
Navigate to the Mac HD >> Library >> Application Support >> Quark >> Trash QuarkXPress 2017 empty the trash
Navigate to the GO Menu, hold down the option key and choose Library >> Preferences >> Quark >> Trash QuarkXPress 2017 and empty the trash
Navigate to the GO Menu, hold down the option key and choose Library >> Application Support >> Quark >> Trash QuarkXPress 2017 and empty the trash

After that please go to the link below and download the installer for QuarkXPress 2017:
