Hi Tomas,

I just tried this on my MacBook Pro, running Sierra.

And unless my document is different than yours, I do not see any speed issue.

Can you please send me your document?

Thanks
Matthias

Hi Tomas,

we found the issue, the mesh shading you applied to the AI file is causing QuarkXPress to slow down. If you create an AI without mesh shading, QuarkXPress is fast.

Will see what we can do to fix this.

Thanks
Matthias

Yes, that's the one with the Mesh shading in the AI, correct?

As written on Facebook, we can reproduce it.

Remove the mesh, then it will be fast.

Thanks
Matthias

I would like to add that, Peter has also confirmed that the slowness while saving documents was caused by a combination of FontAgent and VirusBarrier. If any one of the two are disabled on his machine, the save operations are fast. So the two might be blocking some operation causing QuarkXPress to slow down. The developers of these two products should be able to find out what is being blocked.

As Sarbjit says, I found that if I turned off EITHER FontAgent auto-activation OR VirusBarrier, QXP save speeds reverted to normal – typically a second or two for a reasonably sized document rather than the 55 seconds or so I was experiencing previously.

Since I find a font manager makes life simpler (and I have no complaint against FontAgent) I decided to look at alternative anti-virus apps and downloaded the free trial of ClamXav. This doesn't appear to have any effect on QXP saving speeds, even when FontAgent is running; if this continues throughout the 30-day trial, I will happily pay for ClamXav and dump VirusBarrier. I don’t have the time or energy to embark on lengthy investigations with Intego.

Warm thanks to Vikas Sharma and A. Palaniappan at Quark who steered me through a methodical fault-finding process that led to a brilliant outcome.

Hi grumpiestt,

personally I am using ClamXAV and EtreCheck for protection on MacOS (and of course the build-in solution). All three work well for me.

Thanks
Matthias

Bonjour

Cordialement
Merci
Pierre-jean

Hi pj,

as written above and as confirmed by many users, a general slowness is not normal and typical.
If you see that, then most likely it is one (or more) components that create that when used in conjunction with QuarkXPress.

One user reported only when a virus checker AND a font management software were both active, then QuarkXPress became slow. Fonts can cause issues, or a backup solution (Google).

So first I'd create a new user and try it there (without anything extra installed). If that's fast, then it is something installed.
And the best way is to go via our support: support@quark.com

Merci
Matthias
