Arabic script encoding

Post by emolas » 29 Apr 2018, 11:05

In QXP 2017, is there a way to insert a short passage in Arabic in a layout that otherwise uses western glyphs? This is for a book, mostly in American English. The Arabic passage is less than a line in length. I'm using macOS 10.13.4 (High Sierra). The passage displays correctly in all the text editors and word processors on my Mac in any of several Arabic fonts installed. But in the Quark layout, whether imported or pasted, the characters are wrong. It looks like an encoding problem, but that's just a guess. If I knew Arabic, I might be able to insert the correct glyphs one by one from the glyphs palette ... but ignorance is an obstacle.

Also, I noticed a mention of some kind of Arabic support in an announcement of QuarkXPress 2018. Any hope there?

Worst comes to worst, I will have to insert a picture/graphic of the passage, but I'd rather have Arabic script as text.

Thank you to anyone for any insights.
