Automatic numbering based on DOCX document

Dear Quark User!

I have DOCX file with text grouped in style like above:
1. Interesting idea:
a)
b)
c)
2. Interesting another idea:
a)
b)
c)
d)
...
etc.
When I import text from DOCX file to Quark 2017 I lost numbering a) b) c) etc. Is any posibility to change this or I have to manually change text? Where can I find tools to adjust text in my situation? I try in "Edit paragraph Style Sheet" in place */123 but it was not working as I expected (it changed all line in my text).

I simply want use formatting from Word ( list with a) b) c) ... etc.) and apply style from Quark to all occurence of this numbering.

You should be able to import a numbered list just fine with a DOCX file. I do it occasionally and have only needed to adjust line spacing/leading and the number offset in the Numbering styles.

Dear Mike,

how you make it? I try simple Ctrl+E (File > Import) without changing anything and I lost MS Word DOCX numbering style.

Try the Word document I zipped up and attached.

The only thing I can think of is that your Word document has keyed-in sub points...or something. It would be difficult to guess without seeing a portion of the Word file that demonstrates the error. If you can share a page, or enough text to illustrate the problem, that would be good.

Hi quark.usr,

you have to checkmark "Include Style Sheets", then it works.

When you save your Word-File as RTF, numbering is imported as normal text.

I don't have this option when I import from File > Import. I can select file, open and then I get text in Quark. I write about DOCX file, not RTF.

Hi Jacek,

Thank you for contacting me. You need to select ‘Include Style Sheets’ option in the Import Text dialog while importing a Word docx file having numbering styles in case you wish to import the numbering styles. Bullet and Numbering style import from Word docx file is linked to the Style Sheets option.

From your project, it is visible that you have not selected ‘Include Style Sheets’ option during Word file import.

The suffix character for the numbering style is not imported through Word import. After importing the Word file, you can go to Edit menu > Invoke Bullet, Numbering and Outline Style dialog > Edit the custom Numbering style which have been created o word import i.e. in this case MS BN Style 1 and MS BN Style 2 > Define the Suffix character as . and ) respectively.
