Importing Text and Changing Font Loses Italics, Bold

Post by tdeprenda0314 » 09 Nov 2018, 10:15

I know this has been an ongoing issue with Quark 2018 but I am hoping there is way around this:

When I import text into my layout, it contained a combination of roman and italics in the text. When I changed the font to the actual face I needed, because it comes in as unknown font or Calibri, it changed it all to the roman or regular face instead of retaining the "fake" italics. I had to manually change everything. This is a very-time consuming, and hoping, I didn't miss anything. This an unacceptable. Please change it back!

What is the workaround or solution to this?
Thanks in advance.

I import the text into a text box from MS Word supplied by the editor. I then select all and change the text to the body text face, usually a roman or regular font face. Prior to 2018, doing would retain the "fake" styles that I could do a search and replace in the Usage Dialog Box. By selecting all and changing the typeface now, it loses the applied styles.

Hi tdeprenda0314,

Kindly share the MS Word file, QuarkXPress project and fonts which are using to replace the fonts applied on the text. You can mail to me at sinair@quark.com

Hi, I bumped into the same problem.
My workaround is to import the texts into QXP2017, save the project and then opening them in QXP2018.
To my ends I find QXP2018 not worth the update, alas I already paid for it.

In fact, XPress 2018 seems unable to correctly understand the links between the typographic styles when a font had more of four styles (the classic Roman, Bold, Italic and Bold-Italic). The issues occur when XPress import of a Word file and when XP 2018 read an ancient XP file (QXP 2017, by example).

In a project I realised, a font had six styles: Roman, Bold, Italic, Bold-Italic, Black and Black-Italic; Roman, Bold, Bold-Ital and Ital are linked, Black and Black-Ital are linked separatly, but QXP 2018 put the Bold as Black, and the Bold-Ital as Black-Ital!!!

And read this thread on the forum: https://goo.gl/DaEtyA (it seem's the issue is not repaired!)

I can't (confidentiality of the work, sorry...).

But play in QXP with any font which had a semi-complex structure (bold, semi-bold, black, etc.), put the Bold attribute on the roman font: it's not the *linked* face which is used by QXP (but, by example, the Black face), then remove the Bold attribute and the Black (or other) face remains but not "boldised". And so.

I actually test this issue with the MT Baskerville and the Verlag from Hoeffler: it's works.

Additionaly, the window of "export font" of the PDF-generate options doesn't list all the fonts and faces used int he document! But all are exported.

-----------
And (not the thread, but...): what's about the return of the modal boxes and the saving of the user-mapping keystroke?

If you used the Verlag Book, Book-Ital and Bold, it's display Verlag Extra-Light and Book, and ignore the Book-Ital! (But it exports the Verlag Book, Book-Ital and Bold...)
