Annoying and confusing: Just received your email about Advantage and Q 2019. On clicking where it said to click, it came up page not found and showed me Advantage and 2018. So, I have 2018. What should I do, if anything? Kindly advise, thank you, Anthony

Have now received the Advantage email three times. Quark response to this post would be gratefully received. Thank you

I am sick and tired of receiving countless so-called Advantage emails telling me to buy 2018 so that I can receive 2019 free. I ALREADY BOUGHT 2018 when I came to Quark because of Adobe InDesign let down but I feel something is now going wrong at Q. This, and as previously mentioned in another post, naming the Apple version Pro, which suggests that it is better than the non-Apple version. Big mistake. It should have been called Edit or something similar. Quark: please keep your eye on the ball. Don't forget probably very reasonably priced Affinity Publisher is in the pipeline before too long. In its current beta form its major lack is, of course, inability to import InDesign, but it will be able to in due course and then Quark has a serious competitor. Thank you, Anthony

One would think the current advertising email would go to persons not owning a license for 2018. At least until 2019 ships and then be, well, a different ad. And/or target a different email to current 2018 owners. I personally don't find them offensive to receive.

As regards Affinity Publisher, there is so much it needs to deal with besides just IDML import. Have you done a book in it? Even a few hundred page novel is a bit taxing. I took one of my Q books and laid it out in APub and it wasn't fun. Only images are on chap starts. Even now that (as of today) with proper/better image link handling it isn't as responsive as Q with an identical layout. Master pages are still a weird concept in APub, weird layers, etc. APub also has the same issues as the other Affinity applications as regards color handling and output.

But APub will be cheap. As much as it pains me to write, Scribus is cheaper (being free) and is actually growing up. I still dislike the thing but I do have one client I use it for each year. And free is, well, even better than cheap.

Thanks, Mike, for your take on Affinity, and Scribus.

Mike, it isn't so much a question of offensive, as of confusion, and indicative of Q possibly not getting things right, I feel.

Well, Mike, Affinity Publisher is now released. At its price it was a no-brainer to buy it. Would be interesting to know what you think about it. After just two days of on and off tinkering and getting accustomed to it (just text so far) it is looking good to me. The master pages set up works for me. I think it is giving Q a run for its money . . . I could be wrong . . .

Well, there are issues with master pages and as such Serif will be changing their behavior in the future.

There are also issues with color, output intents, k becoming cmyk mix (esp. with changing output intents), no proper monotone/duotone support, publication performance on higher count publications, no automated work-flows, no plug-in support, and the list goes on.

I believe Serif will rectify most/all of these things over time. But for myself it is not there yet.
