Unnecessary complexity

Post by eyoungren » 15 Jul 2010, 12:12

My issue is with the core set of shortcuts, not the user defined ones. The one's you can't change.
Everything else you have mentioned is good. Not arguing those points. ID has a lot of good points and in a lot of ways I do like it better than XPress (as you and I and me and Greg have discussed time and again). I just generally dislike the GUI, although the screenshots you sent me that one time have gone a long way to easing that dislike.

You can...That's the great thing about it...for example Hide rulers is listed as command+R but I want to change it to F4

Image Image I simply choose F4 even if it's assigned to something else...hit assign and

Hmmmm. OK. I concede the point then. Nice. Now if I can just get it to go back and forth between 1pt and 1/10th pt leading increments without having to change settings. Or do you have a fix for that too? :)

QXP has two keyboard shortcuts for leading. One is set for 1pt of leading at a time. The other is set at 1/10th a pt of leading. Example: I have 6 columns of legals in line. 5pt type, 5pt leading. Select All. One QXP keyboard shortcut will let me go down from 5pt leading to 4 to 3 or up to 6 to 7 and so on. So, let's say I want to set this at 6.5 leading. One shortcut bumps me up to 6pt. I then choose the other shortcut to go from 6 to 6.1 to 6.2 to 6.3 to 6.4 to 6.5. Like that.
In ID, I can set the leading in preferences either to 1pt or 1/10th of a point. But there is only one keyboard shortcut for leading. So if I want to go up to 6.5 pt leading from 5 I can use the shortcut to go to 6pt from 5 if I have the prefs set at one point leading increments. I then have to go back and change this to .1. The I go back, use the same shortcut again and go from 6 to 6.1 and so on.
Make sense? If not, try a Foster's That will jolt you awake!
Post on your FB Wall by the way.

Is this what you're talking about.

And then select your paragraph.
option+ up arrow goes one way, option+down arrow goes the other.
option+command+up / down arrow does the other thing you wanted

OK. So you're saying OPTN+Arrows (up or down does this in 1pt increments). Add CMD to that and I get it in .1 increments?
