bad FontBBox (typically a bug in Adobe 4.2 driver)

Post by dirtypj » 24 Aug 2015, 08:14

I'm freelancing at a place that has just this one Mac, OS X 10.4.11, using QuarkXPress 8.0.

There's very little software on this Mac at all. No Adobe Distiller or anything. So I am trying to make a PDF so that proofreaders can go through my work

I'm going to FILE -> EXPORT -> SAVE AS PDF.

The resulting PDF appears to be very low resolution.

The log message accompanying it says:

%%[Distiller generating /Users/Studio4/Desktop/FRANCE 2016/france_new.pdf]%%

You've got a bad font probably.

If you can (are allowed) I would update XPress to 8.5.1. At the very least you can take advantage of the updates.

You might also try either printing to postscript or File>Export>Save As PDF but export a PS file. Ordinarily, I'd then suggest using Distiller to get the PDF, but if there is minimal software then the one workaround you have is to open the PS file in Preview which will convert it to PDF.
