Will QuarkXpress 10 Support Web Layouts?

Post by StephenL » 07 Aug 2013, 03:45

I recently created a simple website in QuarkXpress that I'm fairly pleased with ( http://www.lasko-design.com ), but I want to expand on that with a new site I want to develop.

1. Will QuarkXpress 10 continue to support HTML output/website layouts?
2. Will QuarkXpress 10 continue to support interactive layouts?

Thanks.

That's good news for building websites with Quark.
But in the July 24 Planet Quark newsletter, Jay Nelson wrote that QuarkXpress 10 was dropping support for SWF files, Blio and HTML 4. I assume that effectively kills Quark Interactive Designer. I just wonder if one will still be able to create motion graphics with HTML 5 or if interactive projects are now gone for good in QuarkXpress 10.

Thank you Matthias, for that clarification.
Once QuarkXpress 10 is installed, will we still be able to open QuarkXpress 9?
Can you provide any timetable for HTML 5 web development capability in QuarkXpress 10?
Thanks...

Hi Stephen,
yes, of course, you can continue to use QuarkXPress 9 once you have upgraded and installed QuarkXPress 10. Just don't upgrade to OS X Mavericks, as QuarkXPress 9 probably won't run on Mavericks (not tested).
About the Web, as written in the other thread, can you tell me about your use case please? As App Studio (with QuarkXPress 9) can already create web apps, is that what you are envisioning to do? Please see here: http://magazine.vacature.com/magazine/reader/#store
Thanks
Matthias

The ability to create HTML pages as either web "comps" or as an enhanced website wire-frame of sorts has been a great value-add for my small design studio. That's what I like so much about Quark's web feature even if the current technology has passed it by: it keeps me from having to deal with programming and allows me to focus solely on design.

The web app you reference is both fascinating and exciting. But it appears to be publication based and I don't know how applicable it is to my current clients' needs. I'm not sure that a web app could be designed to function as a direct replacement for the web feature. Maybe I need to learn more about it...

So - the way I read this, Quark 10 is abandoning its web module. So the hundreds of pages I have struggled to create on Quark 6 to 9 will need to be remade from scratch in some other web layout app. Is that what you're saying?

Look into Freeway 6 from Softpress and also Adobe Muse. QuarkXpress has given up on wysiwyg web design. It's a done deal.

Try Goldfish 3 Mac and Windows Same license covers both versions - http://www.fishbeam.com/de/goldfish/)
or
Freeway Pro (Mac Only - http://www.softpress.com/freeway-pro/) both are great to work with if you know how to use Indesign or QuarkXPress.
