HTML5 web page navigation bar

Ask questions about creating HTML5 Publications (fixed or responsive) using QuarkXPress 2016, 2017 and 2018. HTML5 Publications allow you to create online publications with near-WYSIWYG typography and design and app-like interactivity – at no extra cost.

HTML5 web page navigation bar

Post by Phil40 » 06 Feb 2018, 09:18

When I create an html5 web page I get a navigation bar at the foot of the page. Can I turn that off so I just create the web page?

Thanks.

I found the answer from the link. Thanks.

The trouble is I don't understand all the terms so often I read stuff but don't really know what it means.

I guess I will get there but might need a bit of help. - Last website I built was on Quark 9!

Hi Phil,

QuarkXPress does not create a "web site" anymore, as most people either use dynamic web pages or a CMS like WordPress.

What many people would like to create though is a static or interactive experience from their publication, which QuarkXPress 2017 now allows to do.

Thanks
Matthias

Hi Matthias
OK Now I am totally confused! :?

This is not the place to complain but I have a pre-sales email from QuarkXpress categorically saying that QuarkExpress 2017 DOES create web sites! It is the main reason I upgraded!

I am a Quark user since version 3 but apart from learning to make websites from version 9 I know very little about it. The ability to create a website using my experience with Quark was very attractive.

It does explain why it all seems so confusing to me.

Can't I create HTML5 web pages and hyperlink them into a website?

Thanks

Phil

You can export as an HTML 5 publication. You can upload the folder and files that gets exported and you can use that on a web site.

But it isn't a web site proper.

Hi Phil,

most people understand a "spiderweb" structure when talking about a "website": A start page (home page) and from there links to articles. That is NOT what you create with QuarkXPress 2017.

However what you can create is unique and also HTML5 (thus web, yes): A HTML5 Publication.
This is almost like a PDF or a flipbook, so a page based approach. Sure, you can have links that jump to a different page (you could call it a table of content). And of course you can set links to any place in the internet.

So, in short: You cannot create web sites like the newyorktimes.com or a Wordpress site.

You CAN create stuff like this:
https://www.sevenoakssoundandvision.co. ... andscape/1

Does this explain it?

Thanks
Matthias

I understand about converting a document into a sort of flick page book type thing and I have tried that on a holiday brochure.

I have also created an HTML5 web page which for a first attempt looks good. What I don't understand is why I can't make several individual web pages and mess around with the index.html file names to make them work as a website with hyperlinks.

Quark is so close this time...... I am so frustrated.

I really don't want to get tied into a Dreamweaver subsciption or use a free template type web creator but I am too stupid to start learning code!

There must be a way.......

Phil
