script for replacing images

Post by MarkyBoy » 05 Sep 2018, 09:15

Hi all, I have a document with over 400 eps images.... eps images are not supported in QXP2018 and so I have gone through the task of converting them all to .ai and then to .psd images.

I have removed the old eps images and I wonder if there is a script I could run to replace all the eps images with psd images - the filenames are all the same - so effectively an automated way of replacing the images as you would do manually through the 'usage panel'

Thanks for any help.

Mark

Of course QX2018 supports EPS files.

Thanks
Matthias

Hi Matthias

I am very sorry, I keep saying this, but some complex eps files are not supported properly - they cause all sorts of problems in performance and pdf output. I have sent you some example files many times and said this to you many times on this forum also. Quark Support have told me that there is an issue after I raised a support ticket and sent them example files too and they have referred the issue on to your development (R and D) dept.

Quark up until 9.5 supported complex eps images very well, but not any more and as a result, I have spent many, many hours converting my eps illustrations for a particular client at great expense to myself.

Do you know if there is a script as asked in the original post to help replace the eps images with the psd ones?

Hi Mark,

I don't know about an AppleScript. But Jo Lauterback Software has an XTension that I believe would do what you want. It's relatively inexpensive.

I also don't have a Mac, so I don't have it. But you can relink images based upon a change in a file extension from what I read in their PDF. I have heard of others that use it and recommend it highly. It may be worth downloading and/or sending an email to inquire if it does what you need.

Hi there! I don't have v2018 but maybe I could give you a hand on this. Are all the images named in a similar way between eps and pdf? Like Image1.eps vs Image1.pdf, etc.? And located in the same folder?

Hi Jean-Marie

Many thanks indeed.

The images have the same filename, so image1.eps becomes image1.psd but located in a different folder.
