Popup positions - can't change after creation

Ask questions about creating HTML5 Publications and HTML pages – both fixed or responsive – using QuarkXPress 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019. HTML5 Publications allow you to create online publications with near-WYSIWYG typography & design and app-like interactivity – at no extra cost.

Also learn about Progressive Web App (PWA) export from QuarkXPress 2018. And see how truly responsive layouts using CSS flexboxes are possible, using the Flex Layout in QuarkXPress 2019. All without having to code of course.

Popup positions - can't change after creation

Post by Andy Dowse » 23 May 2019, 05:14

I've been using popups to create dropdown menus on an HTML5 publication.

They work fine when I first create them, but when I change the horizontal position of the button I can't change the popup position, even after changing the 'X' value in the Position Offset.

It seems to be remembering the original position, even when I give it a new one.

I've tried clearing Quark's cache, but this hasn't made any difference.

Has anyone else encountered this?

Popup positions - can't change after creation - update

Post by Andy Dowse » 23 May 2019, 11:38

Further to my post outlining the problem I've been having with changing the position of popups, I've found a solution.

Deleting the layout used in the popup, then recreating it fixes the problem.

Obviously, copying the content of the layout before you delete makes short work of creating the new layout.

I know this might seem like taking a sledge hammer to crack a nut, but it's the only thing that works.

My conclusion is that it's the layout that remembers the original co-ordinates of the popup, not the button.

If I'm right, I think this is a bug that could use some attention by Quark.
